How Picture Background Remover handles your pictures (they stay on your device), the emails left on coming-soon tools, and the little else the site records.

Last updated: 2026-10-28

Picture Background Remover (picturebackgroundremover.com) removes the background from your pictures inside your own web browser. This policy explains what that means for your data, the few things we do record, who helps us run the site and how to reach us. "We", "us" and "our" mean the people who operate picturebackgroundremover.com.

The short version

  • Your pictures are processed on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers, and we never see them.
  • If you leave your email on a tool that is not ready yet, we keep it, with the tool's name and your answer to one question, only to tell you when that tool launches.
  • We don't sell anything about you and we don't use your pictures for anything, including training AI models.
  • There are no accounts: we never ask for your name, and we only learn an email address if you choose to leave one.

Your pictures

When you choose a picture, your browser reads it, runs an open-source background-removal model on it and creates the transparent PNG, all on your computer or phone. The picture and the result stay in your browser's memory until you close or reload the page. Nothing about the picture is sent to us: not the file, not a thumbnail, not its name.

To do this, your browser downloads the model file (about 90 MB) and the engine that runs it the first time you use the tool, and keeps a copy in its cache so later visits start faster. These files are the same for everyone and contain nothing about you. You can remove them by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Emails left on coming-soon tools

Some tools on this site (for example GIF and SVG background removal) are not built yet. When you try one, it tells you so and offers to email you when it is ready. If you fill in the form, we store your email address, the tool you were on, your answer to the question in the form (what you would use it for), when you sent it and a scrambled (salted hash) form of your IP address that helps us spot spam. We use the email address for one thing: to tell you that the tool you asked about, or a closely related one on this site, is available. We don't verify it, we don't send newsletters and we never sell or share it. Ask us and we delete it.

If you email us directly, we keep the conversation so we can reply.

What the site records by itself

  • Request logs. Like any website, our host processes your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver the site and to block attacks.
  • Visit statistics. We count visits with Plausible Analytics, which sets no cookies and stores nothing that identifies you. We see totals such as page views, countries and referring sites.

Cookies and browser storage

We set no cookies for visitors. Your browser's storage keeps your light or dark theme choice and the cached model files described above. Clearing this site's data removes them.

Services we rely on

A few outside companies help run the site. Each receives only what its job needs:

  • Cloudflare: hosts the site and the background-removal model; like any web host it sees your IP address when you connect.
  • jsDelivr: serves the open-source onnxruntime-web engine files your browser downloads to run the model; it sees your IP address like any web host.
  • Plausible Analytics: counts page visits without cookies and without identifying you.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or when it is needed to prevent fraud or protect someone's safety. We don't sell personal information and we don't share it for advertising.

How long we keep things

  • Your pictures: we never receive them, so there is nothing for us to keep.
  • Emails left on coming-soon tools: until the tool launches and we have told you, or until you ask us to delete yours, whichever comes first.
  • Request logs: for the short period our host keeps them.

Your rights

Email us and we will tell you what we hold about you (usually nothing, or just an email address you left), give you a copy, correct it or delete it. We reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.

Children

Picture Background Remover is not meant for children under 13. Children under 13 should not leave an email address on the site; if we learn that one did, we delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS only. Because your pictures never leave your device, they can't leak from our servers. Keep in mind that anyone with access to your device and browser can see what you open in it.

Where data is processed

Our host and the services above run servers in several countries, so the little data we handle may be processed outside the country you live in.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change affects how your pictures are handled, for example if a future tool needs to upload them, we will say so on that tool before it is used.
