Terms of Service

The rules for using Picture Background Remover: what the background remover does, what you may use it on, what the results are yours to do, and the limits of our responsibility.

Last updated: 2026-10-28

These terms are an agreement between you and the people who run Picture Background Remover at picturebackgroundremover.com ("we", "us"). By using the site you accept them and our Privacy Policy. If you don't accept them, please don't use the site.

What the site does

You choose a picture and the site removes its background, giving you a PNG with a transparent background. The work is done by an open-source machine-learning model that runs in your browser, on your device. It decides on its own what the subject is and what counts as background, so it can make mistakes: leave a bit of background, cut into fine hair or thin edges, or keep the wrong object. Check the result before you use it.

Some tools on the site are marked as coming soon. They don't process anything yet; they only offer to email you when they launch.

Free use

The background remover is free to use, with no sign-up and no watermark. Because it runs on your device, how fast it is depends on your device and browser. We may change, limit or stop the free service at any time.

Pictures you use

Use the tool only on pictures you have the right to edit: your own, ones you have permission to use, or ones whose license allows it. Removing a background does not change who owns a picture, and it doesn't make a stock photo, a watermarked image or someone else's artwork free to use. Don't use the site on illegal content.

The results

Your results are yours. We claim no rights to the pictures you process or the PNGs you make, and we never receive them. You are responsible for how you use them: don't use them to impersonate anyone, to make fake documents, or to deceive or harass people.

Things you must not do

  • Break the law or other people's rights while using the site.
  • Overload the site, scrape it, probe it for weaknesses or try to reach data that isn't yours.
  • Send spam or other people's email addresses through the coming-soon forms.
  • Resell the service or present it as your own without our written permission.

Open-source software

The background-removal model is ISNet (isnet-general-use) from the DIS project by Xuebin Qin and colleagues, published under the Apache License 2.0; we converted it to half precision (fp16) so it downloads faster, without other changes. It runs on onnxruntime-web by Microsoft, published under the MIT License. Their licenses apply to them; nothing in these terms limits what those licenses allow you.

Our content

The site's design, text, logo and example images belong to us. Don't copy them without our permission.

Changes, suspension and ending access

We can change, pause or stop any part of the site. If you break these terms, we may block your access without notice.

No guarantees

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise that it will always work, that it will work on every device, that it will be free of errors, or that a result will suit your purpose.

Our liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses such as lost profits, lost data or lost opportunities. Our total liability for any claim connected with the site is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50, whichever is more. Nothing in these terms removes rights that the law in your country gives you and that cannot be waived.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Using the site after that means you accept the new version.
