Three ways to erase a background, and where each one fits.

|---|---|---|---|
| Who finds the edge | The model, in one pass | You, by hand | A server-side model |
| Where the picture goes | Stays in your browser | Stays in your editor | Uploaded to the tool's server |
| Account | None | Depends on the editor | Some ask for a free login |
| Fixing a miss | Rerun, or try another photo | Full control with the brush | Some add a restore brush |
| Time per image | Usually a second or two, less with WebGPU | Depends on the image and how much manual editing it needs | Upload time plus processing |
| Best for | Fast clean cutouts, private photos | Tricky edges you must control | Large catalogs and API use |
How to erase a background from an image online
Three steps, all on your device.
- 1
Add your picture
Upload, drop or paste a PNG, JPG or WebP file up to 25 MB. You can add several images at once, up to 50 at a time, and they run one after another.
- 2
Let the eraser run
The model runs on your device. A recent laptop usually erases an image in a second or two without WebGPU, and in a fraction of a second with it.
- 3
Choose a background and download
Keep it transparent, or pick white, black, a custom colour or a blurred copy of your original. Download a full-size PNG, or all images as one ZIP.
Get a cleaner cut from the background eraser
What held up in our tests, and what to avoid.
- Pick a photo with one clear subject; several subjects can make the model keep or cut the wrong one.
- Choose a photo where the subject differs in color or brightness from its surroundings.
- Skip busy scenes if you can; clutter behind the subject is where leftovers show up.
- Use the original file, not a screenshot, so the edges keep their detail and the cutout has more pixels to work with.
- Drag the Compare slider across hair and fine edges before you download.
- If a spot stays behind, try another shot of the same subject; there is no brush to fix it by hand.
Is this background eraser free and private? Yes, with limits
Your picture is not uploaded
Your picture is processed in your browser and never uploaded to our servers. The model and engine files are downloaded from our storage and a public script host, and no picture data goes there.
Free, no sign-up, no watermark
Nothing runs on our servers, so this background eraser needs no account, has no credit limit and leaves no mark on your PNG.
Known limits
Output is PNG only. Busy scenes, several subjects and low contrast can fool the model. The mask is predicted at 1024 by 1024 pixels and scaled up, so single hairs on large images come out softer.
